Weekly Club Notes from Owen - 30/07/2018

Super day at our Golf Day on Friday at Moyola Park Golf Club!! Fortunately we were very blessed with great weather which ensured all our 57 teams got out on time. Special thanks to our main sponsor FP McCann for their continued sponsorship of our Golf Day and to all our Tee sponsors and teams.  Fantastic to have such support St Malachy's throughout the community. Thanks to Moyola Park Golf Club for all their help and to Back 9 Bistro for the excellent meal afterwards and to Grove Builders for sponsoring the BBQ. We would like to thank all our helpers on the day expecially our ball spotters, all our BBQ chefs, the photographers, our Bookie and the buggy men who all did a fantastic job ensuring the day went as smoothly and successfully as possible. Finally congratulations to all our Prize Winners on the Day!!

2 massive wins this week for an understrength senior team v Ballymagium and Lissan. In a tight derby game the Dawson took lead half way through the first half with a well taken goal by Niall McNicoll. Paddy henry black card and Niall McNicoll subbed after 25 minutes with injury stretched the Dawson’s resources further. 1-5 0-4 half time An early second half goal by Aidan Mc Elhone. Ballymagium replied with one of their own and got it back to one. Castledawson got another goal shortly after young ballymagium corner back got a straight red. Castledawson then kicked a few more points to win by 7. On Sunday we travelled to Lissan and came away with a 1 point lead. Aidan Keenan was unlucky to get sent off after 12 minutes and Lissan were in control then Conor Taggart scored a brilliant goal. Lissan were reduced to 14 men after a dangerous tackle on Manus Mcallister who had to be subbed due to a head injury. Tony Gallagher solos 70 yards with the ball and is disposed on the 21, Aidan Mcelhone pounched on the bouncing ball and hit it on the half volley and put it in the top corner to put us 5 up. The final 10 minutes was backs against the wall and some last ditched defending from Owen Gribbin and Tony Gallagher stopped lissan getting the all-important goal. 2-7 to 12 it finished. The minor team return to action on Monday against Greenlough.

Great win for our U14 Camogs in their championship game against Greenlough on Sunday.  They play Kilrea in the semi-final is this weekend, all support welcome
